The Savannah Derby Devils’ wRECk League offers two pathways to experience the fastest growing sport in the world. Whether you’re looking for a unique way to get fit and meet new people or you’re looking to be a competitive athlete and join the Derby Devils, wRECk’s got you covered!
Our wRECk program is open to anyone 18 years or older. The Savannah Derby Devils adhere to the WFTDA Gender Statement. All participants are expected to follow the WFTDA Code of Conduct.
Gear:
Roller Derby requires certain gear in order to participate. This includes:
Helmet
Wrist Guards
Elbow Pads
Knee Pads
Mouthguard
Quad Roller Skates
The Savannah Derby Devils has a limited amount of gear to loan to participants. We will be able to fit you for gear at your first practice. If you are interested in purchasing gear in advance, we strongly recommend speaking with a member of our Training Committee by emailing savannahdevilstc@gmail.com BEFORE you make a purchase to ensure you are getting the right items.
Other requirements:
After 90 days of participation in the wRECk program, you will be required to purchase WFTDA Accident Medical coverage. The current cost is $75 and expires at the end of the calendar year. If you are interested in purchasing insurance, please email us at savannahdevilstc@gmail.com.
Participants will also be asked to sign a Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement at their first practice.
How wRECk Works:
Participants who are new to derby or former skaters who have been off skates for an extended period will enter the wRECK league. It is structured so you learn and progress at a pace that is comfortable for you!
wRECk Details
Beginners and Returning to the Track ($30/month) – Learn all the skating basics and get a unique workout! This includes Basic Skate Skills practice and Endurance practice. This is non-contact.
The next step toward derby competency will be learning more advanced skating skills and how to make and take contact correctly and safely within the bounds of the Rules of Flat Track Roller Derby.
If taking the competitive pathway, wRECK ends with a Minimum Skills clearance and you will be asked if you’d like to be an active member of the Savannah Derby Devils!
Transfers:
Transfers ($30/month) – If you are a transfer, welcome to Savannah!
In order to qualify as a transfer, a skater must meet the following requirements:
Transferring from a WFTDA Full or Apprentice league:
Must have participated in at least one (1) full length bout with your former league
Must have participated in a practice with your former league within ninety (90) days of their start date with the Savannah Derby Devils
Must complete the Savannah Derby Devils Transfer Form
Must have a Letter of Recommendation submitted from their previous coach or league president. The letter must include the following:
Skater’s skills and strengths
Date of their last full length bout with league
Date their last practice with league
Letters of Recommendation must be submitted to savannahdevilstc@gmail.com.
Transferring from a non-WFTDA league (or off skates more than three months):
Must complete the Savannah Derby Devils Transfer Form
Must have a Letter of Recommendation submitted from their previous coach or league president. The letter must include the following:
Skater’s skills and strengths
Date of their last full length bout with league
Date their last practice with league
Letters of Recommendation must be submitted to savannahdevilstc@gmail.com.
Upon vetting of the Transfer Form and Letter of Recommendation, the skater must schedule a skills assessment with the Training Committee. Upon completion of the assessment, the skater will be invited to enter the Savannah Derby Devils wRECk program.
NOTE: All transfers must have WFTDA Insurance prior to their first practice.
